About Our Staff
Nancy Mohrbacher, IBCLC, founder and President of The Art of Breastfeeding, is an accredited La Leche League leader and international board-certified lactation consultant. Nancy breastfed her own three boys, each for well over a year, and has been working with breastfeeding families since 1982. She is President of the Northern Illinois Lactation Consultant Association. Nancy is known internationally for her expertise on breastfeeding. Her books, articles, and pamphlets are used by doctors, nurses, lactation consultants, lay breastfeeding counselors and public health workers. The Breastfeeding Answer Book (1997), which she co-authored with Julie Stock, is a comprehensive research-based counseling guide that is also used to train lactation educators. The New Leader�s Handbook (1989), which she co-edited with Judy Torgus, is the manual on how to establish and run a breastfeeding support group and is required reading for La Leche League leaders worldwide. Nancy served for 11 years in La Leche League's Publications Department, both as Managing Editor of La Leche League International�s magazine for members (New Beginnings) and leaders (Leaven) and wrote many of La Leche League�s pamphlets. From 1992 to 1995 she wrote the breastfeeding column in Baby Talk magazine. She has also spoken on breastfeeding across the US. Nancy led a Chicago-area breastfeeding support group for 13 years, and she has lectured on breastfeeding at local, state, and international workshops, seminars, and conferences in California, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, New Jersey, Washington, DC, and Wisconsin. She currently teaches breastfeeding classes in the Chicago area. Nancy founded The Art of Breastfeeding in 1993 as a way of helping more families meet their breastfeeding goals. In addition to providing hands-on help through home and office visits, Nancy keeps an extensive inventory of state-of-the-art breastfeeding equipment and products to make it easy for families to find what they need when they need it. Nancy does home and office consultations, as well as rentals and sales.
Jane Madaj, IBCLC, is an accredited La Leche League leader and international board-certified lactation consultant. Jane breastfed her own three children and has been working with breastfeeding families since 1990. She is Vice President of the Northern Illinois Lactation Consultant Association.
Jane has led a breastfeeding support group since 1990 and is currently leading meetings in the Chicago area.
Jane joined The Art of Breastfeeding in 1997 and currently does home and office consultations, as well as
rentals and sales.
Cynthia Guzman is an accredited La Leche League leader. Cynthia breastfed her two children, daughter Xanath, seven, and son Zion, four, for years not months. She is passionate about breastfeeding and says "the first label I ever felt inspired to put on myself was 'breastfeeding mother.'" Her goal is to sit for the board exam as soon as possible, as becoming an IBCLC has been a long-time dream.
Cynthia has led a breastfeeding support group since 1995 and leads monthly meetings in the Chicago area.
She joined The Art of Breastfeeding in May 2000 and currently does rentals and sales, answers phones,
and staffs our monthly exhibits at Babies R Us.
Jodi is secretary of the Northern Illinois Lactation Consultant Association. She joined The Art of Breastfeeding in June 2000 and currently answers phones and does rentals and sales.
Jeanne Cygnus has been helping Lake County Illinois parents of infants and preschoolers
through the Family Circle of Youth and Family Counseling since 1995. Jeanne created and supervised Family
Circle's "Time with Baby," a support group for first-time parents that ran from 1997-99. She currently
does breastfeeding counseling and assists with a variety of parent education programs.
Susan Engelhardt is an accredited La Leche League leader and a Certified Massage Therapist with a bachelor's degree in psychology and a masters in early childhood eduction. She breastfed her seven-year-old daughter Katie and is currently breastfeeding her two-year-old daughter Carrie.
Susan has led a breastfeeding support group since 1995 and leads monthly meetings in the Chicago area.
Susan has been working with The Art of Breastfeeding since October 1999 and staffs our monthly exhibits
at Babies R Us.
