Rental Pumps

Rentals are available only in the Chicago area. Compare prices--we are among the lowest. We accept cash, check and most major credit cards.
With each pump rental your costs include:
· Rental feethe longer the prepaid rental period, the lower the cost per day.

$2.50 per day
$15 per week
$40 per month
$100 per 3 months (payable in advance)
Medela Classic pump only:
$3 per day; $18 per week; $55 per month; $150 per 3 months (payable in advance)

· Collection kit --the bottles and tubing that attach to the pump.

A one-time purchase, each mother owns her own kit, as these parts touch the milk. See our collection kits page for prices.

A full pumping takes about 10-15 minutes with a double kit and about 20-30 minutes with a single kit.
· Deposit--a credit card on file or a refundable $30 deposit for each pump

Delivery available
We know its not easy for mothers and babies to get out, so we offer optional home delivery and set-up. For more information or to schedule delivery, give us a call. We can usually be there within 24 hours--sooner if your need is urgent.

You may return your rental pump to any of our Art of Breastfeeding locations--by appointment only. Please give at least 24 hours notice.

Expert Help
Rather than struggling alone with complicated written instructions, feel at ease with your pump before you use it. A trained lactation specialist instructs you in pump use and care and answers all your breastfeeding and pumping questions. You'll receive the latest milk storage guidelines free with your pump, and you can call us with questions any time.

Best Selection
Most rental stations carry only one brand or even one model of pump. To make it easy for you to find the pump that works best for you, The Art of Breastfeeding offers the full line of rental pumps from both Medela and Ameda/Egnell, and you can exchange one pump for another at any time free of charge.

All rental breast pumps:

    • have adjustable suction
    • automatically generate about 48 suction-and-release cycles per minutes, like a nursing baby
    • offer single or double pumping, depending on your collection kit

Other features include speed control, which can help speed milk flow (only on the Medela Lactina Select and Ameda/Egnell Elite), and lower suction settings for more sensitive mothers (only on the Ameda/Egnell Elite).

Medela Lactina Select Medela Lactina Select
5 lbs
. The mid-size Lactina Select is the lightest of the rental pumps. In addition to adjustable suction, it also offers adjustable speed (42 to 60 suction-and-release cycles per minute), which helps some mothers let down their milk more quickly. A plastic piston moving horizontally generates suction and release.

A shoulder bag is available for purchase that holds pump, kit, and milk.

Medela Classic

Medela Classic

16 lbs. The original Medela breast pump, the full-size Classic is a fixture in many hospitals. A rotating silver piston generates suction and release. If you started with the Classic and it worked well for you, we can provide one for your home or workplace. Some women prefer the Classics smooth feel.

Ameda/Egnell Elite

Egnell Elite

7 lbs. The only pump that starts at zero suction, the portable, mid-size Elite is ideal if the minimum suction setting of other rental pumps is uncomfortable. A plastic piston moving horizontally generates suction and release. A dial allows you to adjust the speed between 30 to 60 suction-and-release cycles per minutethe broadest speed range available--which helps some mothers let down their milk more quickly. The Elite gives you the most combinations of suction and speed. A shoulder bag is available for purchase that holds pump, kit, and milk.

Ameda/Egnell Lact-E

Ameda/Egnell Lact-E (brown)

11 lbs. The lightest weight of the full-size pumps. A rotating silver piston generates suction and release.
Although heavier than the Elite, some women prefer the Lact-Es stronger suction.

Ameda/Egnell SMB (silver)

22 lbs. Most commonly found in hospitals, the SMB was the worlds first automatic breast pump and is also the heaviest. A rotating silver piston generates suction and release. If you started with the SMB and it worked well for you, we can provide one for your home or workplace.
